Charity Challenge Week 3 - Night 3

It’s officially the midway point of annual O’Sullivan Charity Challenge. Both Rachel and I have been having a blast this year. If you’d like to donate in support of CAMH you can do so here.

The Choice

I’m down 2-0 and Rachel would win the week tonight as fast as literally possible if she wins tonight. I’ve decided to pick a game that I feel I have a decent mastery over and I know Rachel is still trying to figure out. Tonight in order to try and stop the week getting away from me I’ve picked Azul.

The Game

Last year we played Azul Stained Glass of Sintra, the follow up to Azul. Azul is the a more straight forward version of Stained Glass, where players draft tiles from a few different pools in the middle of the board. It’s hard to explain in text, but fairly easy to learn, difficult to master. If you’d like to see more about the game you can check out a video here.

The Result

The game started out very close. Rachel stayed within 1 point of me in the first three rounds and generally we went back and fourth throughout the game, keeping it real tight. It wasn’t until the very end where you get bonus points at the end of the game for finishing rows, columns and colours that a winner was decided. Both Rachel and I ended up with our highest scores in the end.

My winning board!

When all was said and done I had defeated Rachel 100 to 79. I’ve managed to keep Week 3 alive!
