Charity Challenge Week 4 Night 4 - Azul Stained Glass of Sintra

Last night Rachel managed to put away week 4 in a clean sweep but we still have two nights to play this week.  We’ll want to get these nights behind us to get to week 5 and the deciding games of this charity challenge competition.  As ever if you’d like to donate, and we very much appreciate all donations! please visit our campaign page here.

The Choice

Since Rachel has been kicking my butt this week I get to choose the game tonight.  We’re in an in between period, so I thought I’d pick something new and fun I grabbed whilst at PAX Unplugged: tonight we’re playing Azul Stained Glass of Sintra.

The Game

Azul Stained Glass of Sintra is a follow up game to the smash hit from last year Azul.  Azul was a game we played a lot last year and this game is a bit of an update with a lot of similarities but enough differences to make it interesting.  In Stained Glass you are drafting stained glass tiles from the middle of the board trying to complete the stained glass in your cathedral.  There’s various interesting ways to score based on what parts of your stained glass you complete and you can combo different columns off of each other to increase your score.

For a full intro to the game I highly suggest you check out this video.

The Result

I had played this game at PAX Unplugged and it was Rachel’s first time, and the game opened with that.  For the first two of the six rounds I was in the lead and was looking ready to run away.  In the end though Rachel clearly was getting a solid grasp of the game and was nipping at my heels, the two of us going back and fourth.  In the end it was very close but the bonus scoring put me over the top.  I’m really excited to get to the other side of this charity challenge so we can get it to the table a few times, I think Rachel will be beating me in no time.

That stops Rachel’s sweep of the week and hopefully is a start of shifting momentum for me going into week 5.  But first we have one more game night for week 4.  See you tomorrow night!
